1. What's your favorite place to run in the Ann Arbor area?

I like routes where I don’t have to think where I’m going: Ferry Field or an out and back on Cherry Hill Road in Superior Township.

2. Post long run cravings?

In summer I enjoy a nice popsicle and some pop. The rest of the year I’ll go for whatever leftovers are in the fridge. I’m big on salty snacks as well.

3. Craziest thing that's happened to you while running?

During the second night of Arrowhead 135 I spent about 2 hours in a weird cycle of micro sleep. I’d fall asleep for a couple seconds, then be awake for a couple seconds, then fall asleep again, all while continuing to move down the trail. After a couple hours I felt pretty well rested.

4. Favorite workout?

I like to jump into anybody else’s workout. I really need a group to motivate me to complete tough sessions. If I had to choose specifics, something like 20x400 on a track.

5. Show you are currently binge watching?

The Great British Bake Off

6. Who is your running hero? (can be past or present)

I wouldn’t say I have a running hero, but I’m inspired by anyone who’s working hard and trying to see how much they can improve.

7. Do you have any race day superstitions?

Not a superstition, but I stress a lot about code brown on race morning.

8. Famous person you would most want to go on a run with?

Probably the writer Malcolm Gladwell. He seems fun to talk to and actually likes running. I wouldn’t want to pick someone who can’t hang.

9. Current goals / race you are training for?

My next race is the Indianapolis marathon on November 5th. I’m also thinking about getting back into ultras for 2023, but in general I’m just hoping to keep having fun and improving as much as I can.

10. PR that you are most proud of?

I’m proud of how well I executed my race plan during my 18:23 trail 100 mile at the 2021 Run Woodstock. In previous ultras I always slowed significantly toward the end, so it was satisfying to run very consistently over the 6 loops of the course.
